Here’s a news report from KUSI News Television including an interview with a lifeguard about the beach alcohol ban.

Yet another death in the beach community of Pacific Beach. This time it’s by young people celebrating a birthday at a bonfire, presumably at the beach or bay park. As it turns out the young man that lost his life was 19 years old.
Well, the first event, the StayClassy “Charity Jam” was reviewed on and voted upon by the Special Events Committee. Their recommendation? To tell the city not to approve the event. The city’s response? To go against the committee’s recommendation and approve the event.
April 5, 2008 Update from the San Diego Union Tribune:
…Witnesses claimed the pedestrians, Salvatore Deiranco, 24 and Damon Seamons, 24, were not fighting, as police first reported, but arguing oas they crossed the street. Defranco’s head injuries are considered life-threatening, police said.

Today, if you were planning to take a six-pack to Torrey Pines State Beach, just south of Del Mar, you need to change your plans. That’s because today is the first day of a year-long ban on the use of alcohol on that beach. If this sounds familiar, that’s because at the end of last year San Diego imposed a year-long pilot ban on drinking on its beaches.
